making pretty things with glass......

Updated teaching schedule here

Once I had the rare chance to sit next to her for a good long while. Bernadette is a talented artist in her own right. She is patient and kind as well. I have seen her for years at various events, but this one occasion, she and I shared much more.. I am grateful for that time as she helped me understand so much. It was an important moment. Like you might imagine the teacher that appears when you are ready to address the life's lesson. I think this piece reminds me of her because of the colors, but also that one pod on the right. It conjures up the look in her eye as she is just about to tell you something important.
Made of fully annealed glass of many different varieties, this piece measures 5 1/2" x 3". It has a sturdy pin back and it's all wired into an armature of my own making. It has a polymer clay backing to protect your favorite wool blazer.

Juliet Someday is named for a gentle spirit. I never met her, but her heart is as beautiful as her face. She stands her ground, when she believes fully in something, but she knows when to walk away, dignity intact. Juliet will someday, love again. This little pink brooch measures 3" x 2". It is smaller than my usual showy bold look and has a subltle undersea feel. Made of fully annealed glass with a strong pin back and polymer clay backing to protect your cashmere sweater.
Louie Batt-on
Another one not named for a woman, but named by a woman. A student in a class named Liz. We were at a convention center and it was one of those huge multi-purpose rooms. An unfortunate little bat was stuck in the room. We were worried about him.. being in such an unnatural habitat. I made the brooch and Liz named it. I couldn't resist! Made of fully annealed glass from Double Helix to Moretti to Precision by Northstar. I love them all! Measures 41/2 x 2 1/2"

Ok, this one is not about a woman I know. It's about a painting. I think if you are a student of art, you understand. This delicate shell pink, translucent and subtle. It's a big brooch. It looks great on grey. It measures 8" x 4". I broke all my own rules on this one, made it out of one color only, coaxing the pink blush with heating and cooling over and over. It has two pins in back because it's a big brooch. It needed it. Fully annealed and guarenteed, as usual!
